Timonthydelaghetto's newest Youtube Video is racist

Timothydelaghetto (Traphik) aka Tim Chantarangsu has uploaded a spinoff of the viral youtube video series 'Epic Mealtime'. Instead of the regular setup of pounds and pounds of meat with a calorie count that could feed a whole neighborhood, Tim does it a bit different. The twist? It's racist.

With that said, many viewers would be offended. But, hey. It's Tim. It's not like him to not come off at least a little bit offensive. Check out No Racial (The new "No Homo"). Besides the ridiculousness of it all, Tim is being sarcastic and using all the satire he can in this skit.  Personally, I think it's a great idea. Not only was it funny, but hopefully it got people to think a little about stereotypes and racism. It might seem funny to poke fun at someone of another race, but really, it's just silly and makes you look like an ignorant person.

J. Reyez is back with a new MV

J. Reyez is back with Tycoon in this new MV based on Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Niggas in Paris". The video was titled, "Chiggers in Paris" but was taken down and reuploaded as "Niggas in Paris Remix."

I'm not one for rap, but J.Reyez is pretty good. Plus, he has improved. I've been seeing satire used a lot lately to debunk stereotypes and show how silly they are. Some artists have done well, but others have failed. J. Reyez is certainly one of those who can talk about stereotypes in his songs and make you think.

Good luck to J.Reyez on his new album.
And rememebr to leave your comments down below.

Ludacris is officially working with YG Entertainment!

American rapper, Ludacris, is set to sign an agreement with YG entertainment next week! If you haven't been following kpop news (like I do religiously), Ludacris has already expressed his positive feelings towards the genre. He feels that kpop is going global, and really favors YG Entertainment's Hip-Hop/R&B music. Ludacris is visting Korea on September 20th, where he will sign a memorandum. Representatives from YG hinted at a music exchange and a collaboration in the future.

Also, Ludacris will release his brand of headphones "Soul" on the 20th at the press conference with YG.

If you don't already know, The Black Eyed Peas' Will.I.Am. recently visted Korea to work with YG's 2NE1. Maybe Ludacris will work with Big Bang? Who Knows? So many possiblilties.

Anyone excited for the American/Korean collaborations?

Toyota's "Growing Up" commercial

Back with my ongoing commercial spotlight posts, I just recently found Toyota's new commercial featuring an Asian American dad and his little girl who "grows up" in thirty seconds.
The commercial is cute, relatable, and effectively sends out the messages Toyota is trying to accomplish.
The most awesome thing about this commercial is that stereotypes are nonexsistent. This fits the typical "American" lifestyle. Job well done,Toyota.

Glee returns this September. And guess what? Mike Chang now has parents

Tamlyn Tomita

If you don't already know by now Mike Chang, played by Harry Shum Jr., is not a supporting actor anymore. In this season on Glee, Mike Chang is now one of the main characters alongside fellow Gleemates like Rachel Berry (Lea Michele) and Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer). Chang now has a larger role in the series so gleeks can get a closer look into Mike Chang's history. Which means, Mike Chang now has parents.

Tamlyn Tomita of The Joy Luck Club and Keong Sim of The Last Airbender will play Chang's mother and father respectively.

Keong Sim
This is really exciting news. I think this is a big step for the media. And of course you would see it first on Glee. From a show that disregards what anyone has to say about it, Glee likes to take chances. And it pays off. I just hope the characters are played respectfully.

You won't get to see this duo until October 4th during the third episode, but I bet Glee fans cannot wait.
Check out the new season on Fox starting September 20th!!

Just when you thought America was getting a little less racist...

It's nice to see Asian Americans coming into their own. I've posted some commericals and spotlighted some Asian American actors. (More to come on that, I promise.) There has been a breakthrough in Asian American entertainment like never before. Yet, in this day and age, there is always someone trying to reverse that progress. Meet the new Alexandra Wallace:

I try to keep this blog as positive as I can. My posts recognize and celebrate a new kind of diversity that has yet to be seen. But with recent videos like Alexandra Wallace's racist UCLA rant (that was eventually banned on Youtube) and the racist remarks about Japan on Facebook after the Women's World Cup, I just can't help but expose this kind of ignorance. Hopefully with enough exposure to this stupidity, people will learn to be a little less judgemental.

New Heights is a mix of Alternative rock and CCM. Photo by Rob Cambell.

Seattle rock band New Heights releases a new track titled Nightmare off their upcoming album Something to Believe In featuring Allkpop's Brian Joo and DJ Yup . The song itself is beautifully haunting with lyrics like “I don’t want to relive, I don’t want to forgive, I don’t want to dream this nightmare with you.” The message behind the song is that sometimes relationships are like dreams, and other times, they are like nightmares. New Heights describes their music as Contemporary Christian Music with a Pop/Rock feel.

2NE1 reaches #5 on Youtube's Music Chart

After releasing a string of hit singles, I Am the Best, Hate You, and Ugly, it was no surprise to fans (called Blackjacks) to see their lovely ladies on Youtube's front page. Latley, K-pop has been hitting the front pages of Youtube with millions of hits within days of release. However, it was shocking to see an older K-pop video reach the success of gaining enough views to reach #5 on the U.S Youtube chart (breaking the record set by Hyuna's Bubble Pop MV at #11.)

Since it was a year old video, Netizens (aka internet citizens) have claimed that the view counts have been skewed. Some fans and K-pop lovers alike have called fowl, accusing fans and antis for using robots which replay the video over and over to increase the view count. Whatever the reason, it's a great feat for K-pop and especially for these talented girls.
Here's the video garnering so much attention:

Darren Criss talks Broadway, and his role as a regular on Glee

Glee's Darren Criss, known for his role in Youtube's viral hit A Very Potter Musical, was born February 5, 1987 in San Francisco. His father is of Irish descent and his mother is Filipino.

Darren Criss, with that dazzling smile, cute bouncy curls, and beautiful voice won us over as the love interest of the Glee club's Kurt Hummel back in 2010. Recently, at a press conference at Comic Con, Darren revealed his plans for the future. In January, he will be replacing Daniel Radcliffe in How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. (Don't worry Radcliffe and Broadway fans, Criss is only filling in.)

We will be seeing a lot of Darren in the year to come.Next year, along with co-star Harry Shum Jr., Criss will be returning to Glee as a cast regular. With Glee's graduation day getting closer, we'll have to wait to see just how much of Darren Criss we will actually get to swoon over.

Hmmm. Glee goes college, anyone? I don't think fans would mind.

Asian American spotlight: Ashley Argota

Actress Ashley Argota at The 8th Annual Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party in Los Angeles, California.

Argota was born January 9th, 1993 in Redlands, California, USA. She is a Filipina American actress best known for her role as Lulu Johnson on True Jackson, VP. She has also starred in Nickelodeon's hit TV series, iCarly and 2007 movie 'Schooled'. Recently, she has been casted as Kelly Peckinpaw on Nickelodeon's new TV series, Bucket and Skinner's Epic Adventures.

In an interview with Teen Vogue, Argota describes her character, Kelly.

"Kelly is a surf instructor, and I've never even tried surfing! I've had to learn surfer lingo and how to hold the surfboards properly while being on the show. Kelly is also really good at gently deflecting romantic advances from Bucket and other boys in school. But in real life, it actually makes me really uncomfortable when boys flirt with me. I never know what to do. I wish I had Kelly's boy expertise."

Argota enjoys the set very much, telling Teen Vogue that Bucket and Skinner's main front men love playing pranks on her. What she enjoys most are the stunts, but she also has had much fun dancing and singing on the show.

Sounds exciting! Hope we get to see more of this amazing actress on TV.

Be sure to watch Kelly on Bucket and Skinner's Epic Adventures on Nickelodeon!

K-pop goes global for free

(On left) Lee Soo-man, Chairman of S.M. Entertainment speaks with Ministry of Culture's Choung Byoung-gug on K-pop in the global market.

On wednesday (July 27th), Lee Soo-man the chairmen of the popular Korean music entertainment company, S.M. Entertainment, decides to take the next step to further promote K- pop in the international market.

After receiving a plague from the Ministry of Culture, Lee sat down with Culture Minister Choung Byoung-gug. Lee revealed his plan to create an iTunes-like service for overseas fans in hopes to encourage the spread of the Hallyu Wave.

"The local music market needs a new digital music distribution platform - an iTunes-like one or an entirely different one - not only to allow purchasing digital music and globally sharing music for free but to give profits to songwriters from corporate marketing and advertisement," Lee said.

Upon visiting Paris, France, Lee met with fans who were inspired to learn the Korean language after falling in love with K-pop. Lee responded by suggesting that Korea build an international Hallyu school for foreigners to learn more about Korea's pop culture.

AZIATIX is 'Slippin Away' in this new MV

AZIATIX is an Asian American group featuring Eddie Shin, Flowsik, and Nicky Lee.

From the soft opening to the simple raps, "Slipping Away" will not slip away from fans' memories. This song is intriguing from beginning to end without having to add in funky club beats, an unnecessary dubstep, or a catchy chorus that has to make up for what it lacks in verses.

Aziatix is more than a diamond in the rough. Good bands like this make me question how America can sit back and not promote these kinds of songs. The Asian American artists of today are all diamonds in the rough by definition. There is so much talent there, yet they are undiscovered to the mainstream public.

If you've never heard of Aziatix, or if you have but never listened to them, I would give this song a listen.

Check the link out below! If you like what you hear, go buy the song and support these wonderful guys!

Who needs a vampire and a wolf harboring for your affection when you have two sexy Asian men instead?

Terry Lovett's Blog: ZIA finally available in print!

First time Author, Terry Lovett has released YA Sci-fi fantasy novel titled, ZIA.
Here's the summary:

Zia lifted the music box lid. She’d never realized there were lyrics to accompany its tune. “Some have a lifetime, some just a day. Love isn’t something you measure that way. Nothing’s ever forever, forever’s a lie. All we have is between hello and goodbye.” Until now, Zia never believed it would be possible to have that one day, that one fleeting moment, with the boy she loves. But today, she’s been given the chance - the use of a Parallax Portal - and for one evening, she and Kiel can exist in a shared time and space. But will being together be worth the pain when the night ends and Kiel’s simulacrum passes back through the portal into his own world? And there’s something else - rather, someone else - confusing the situation. Someone living on the same planet, in the same town, and attending the same high school – popular, painfully handsome Kim. Why now, after years of clandestinely watching and wanting him, has he decided to notice Zia as well? Not that his advances have come too late, but they have created another problem – whom to choose. The boy she wants or the boy she’s wanted. But who can she confide in? Certainly no one living inside Celebration, Florida’s plasma bubble. Her friends don’t even believe Kiel exists! They’re convinced he’s only a storybook love Zia has created as a substitute for the guy she really wants. And her brother is no help. He’s too busy trying to repay the Carbon Copy Pet Cloning Center after running over the family dog. There’s always ADAM, her car’s Auto Drive Action Mechanism. But he’s only worth talking to when he maintains the Queen’s English and doesn’t slip into his annoying Cockney rhyming slang. That only leaves Oma, Zia’s one hundred twenty-year-old great-grandmother, because even though her weekly rejuvenation at the New U Medical Resurrection Clinic creates the illusion that she isn’t much older than Zia, she is, in fact, much wiser. She’ll have the answer hiding somewhere among her memories, a lifetime of experiences scattered across her room in diaries and photos…and music boxes.

The plot sounds interesting enough. Besides the fact that this sounds like an amazing plot line, what I love is how Lovett didn't shy away from use of Asian characters in her story. The American YA genre lacks in Asian American characters and Lovett changes all of that.

Her main character, Zia, is the everyday Caucasian YA heroine. Yet, Zia's love interests are not. They, in fact, are both Asian. For Lovett, this is entirely rare. Asian Americans in teen lit are nearly nonexsistent.   Lovett was inspired by her daughter, she says. A year before she wrote, her daughter would "gush over Korean boy-bands and K-dramas..." Because of her daughter's interests she "knew that both Kiel and Kim would be Asian.”

And who were these characters inspired by?
None other than Super Junior's Choi Siwon as Kim And Korean actor Lee Minho as Kiel. Now that's eye candy! Or imaginary eye candy.

The novel isn't child's play, coming in with a "PG-13" rating according to Lovett. But, I'm sure it's a captivating and sexy read many fans will be swooning over until the next installment.

Girl Group 2NE1 is 'UGLY'

The Korean girl group that's famous for thier strong, edgy image that differs from the usual cutesy and bubbly music that Korean pop is best known for is back with thier newly released song 'UGLY'.  Opposite to the not-so-modest powerhouse anthem "I Am the Best" and newly released rage-filled "Hate You", 2NE1 comes back with a heavyhearted track full of rock-inspired rifts and self-loathing lyrics such as "I think I'm ugly and nobody wants to love me, just like her I want to be pretty," and "I'm all alone". Not unlike "Lonely", 2NE1 brings another sad song with an upbeat twist. It's relatable for the many heartbroken young and old who just don't ever feel adequaete enough. Perhaps it is not a postive thing to repeat, but it's a song that makes you realize that you are not the only one who feels like he/she is not enough sometimes.

Personally, It's not my favorite song from 2NE1's newly released songs. "Lonely" showcased the best example of 2NE1's vocal talent. And "I Am The Best" somewhat bollywood-rock-hip hop song is a club hit. (And was an all-kill.)  However, "Ugly"'s heartbreaking lyrics might change all that.

2NE1 is just like YG Entertainment's idea of a powerful idol group: they change, develop, and always try new things. This is what UGLY represents. In a world where "beautiful is better", and the mentality is to always stay thin and thinner, 2NE1 stands out. Thier song is an anthem to the girls who see stick-thin idols who refuse to show thier flaws at all costs. 2NE1 has flaws and that's OK. We have flaws, too.

Like I said previously, 2NE1 is relatable to young girls--in Korea and internationally. With thier strong image, fresh beats, and their sense of being 'real', 2NE1 shows that they are in the music game to stay. And possibly can transcend it. I look forward to thier U.S. advancement.

Check out this hot track below:
